Isabellatour

Meet our locals
Yuck! That smells bad! All that mould and all those food scraps look disgusting.” I would never want to live in there. “So how many of you have seen a worm farm before?”

Rm11 were looking at a disgusting but cool worm farm. We were behind the office at Newmarket Primary School. The worm farm is where everyone puts their food scraps. There were banana skins that had partly broken down, there were peaches and teabags which the teachers put in but there has to be no milk in teabags because milk is bad for the worms.

Next Eilleen lifted up the soil to find a tiger worm but before she did that she had to put on gloves so the worms would not get too hot. Eilleen took the worm around to show the whole class what they looked like. Eilleen next went round the other side and brought up the worm tea also known as worm pee. She took it around for all of us to see and smell. When it got to me I thought that it smelt disgusting. The tea helps the soil to stay healthy.

“Ohhhhh!!!” Eilleen covered the worm farm up and said “The worms don’t like the hot weather they only like the cold.” The reason she put the lid back on was because they also like darkness and not too much light. Eilleen found some foods that worms didn’t like, like any meats or any citrus fruits. The citrus fruits are too sweet and the meat is too tough for their little bodies so those foods were out.

Ok so I was wrong. The worms aren’t yuck. They are awesome in fact. I still may not want to live with them but I need to respect their habitat.
